The American Library Association’s Office for Diversity and Spectrum Scholarship Program offers a unique opportunity for early career librarians to participate in a recruitment initiative focused on bringing ethnically diverse high school and college students to careers in libraries. “Discovering Librarianship: The Future is Overdue,” a project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), will support the training of 35 early career librarians to serve as recruiters in national, regional and local career recruitment and education events. |

Prism Plus Fellowships at the University of Rhode Island "PRISM Plus Fellowship is a scholarship program funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and dedicated to educating future librarians about information literacy for diverse populations. PRISM prepares future librarians to work with diverse populations and provide culturally sensitive information literacy instruction that empowers individuals to access and use information effectively. Students awarded the fellowship receive full scholarships in the GSLIS program and earn a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science.” |

The Spectrum Scholarship Program is ten years old this in 2007. Established in 1997, the Spectrum Scholarship Program is the American Library Association's (ALA) national diversity and recruitment effort designed to address the specific issue of under-representation of critically needed ethnic librarians within the profession while serving as a model for ways to bring attention to larger diversity issues in the future. To celebrate the anniversary in a big way, the Spectrum Scholarship Program will award a historic number of master's level scholarships for 2007-2008 and the first ten Spectrum Doctoral Fellowships. |

Spectrum's major drive is to recruit applicants and award scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students. Spectrum provides a one-year $5,000 scholarship and over $1,500 in professional development opportunities to eligible students planning to attend an ALA-accredited graduate program in library and information studies or an ALA-recognized NCATE School Library Media program. |
